Resetting Trusted Platform Module (TPM)
Prerequisites
- UEFI install of Windows
How to check- Run msinfo32
- If you don't see “BIOS Mode UEFI” you will need to reinstall using UEFI mode. If you do have UEFI mode, continue below.
Warning: if you have bitlocker enabled, you need to disable it before proceeding, unless you like losing all your data. if you don't know what bitlocker is, you don't have it.
Resetting
- Press Win+R to open the Windows Run dialog
- Type tpm.msc and press Enter
- If this opens normally, you should be able to clear the TPM and reboot and be done. It's not uncommon to get an error here if you have this problem.
- If that didn't work do the following:
- Open the start menu and type Device Security
- Select Security Processor Details → Security Processor Troubleshooting and select Clear TPM
- You'll be prompted to restart, so restart your machine
- After the restart it should be working correctly.
